The "Land of Opportunities" project is a European initiative that aims to take advantage of abandoned land in rural areas to offer opportunities to young people who want to move to the countryside and develop a sustainable economic activity.
The project aims to promote the environmental sustainability of rural areas through the promotion of responsible agricultural practices and the application of sustainable technologies in food production.
Main objectives 1) to promote access to uncultivated and/or abandoned land for new farmers 2) to raise awareness of the need to fight climate change 3) to improve the training and key skills of people in rural areas
Main activities a) holding local social hackathons to learn about the contexts and needs of local communities b) developing specific training itineraries for farmers and new farmers, with a focus on low-skilled adults, women, migrants and refugees, unemployed young adults c) mapping uncultivated and/or abandoned land in rural areas and developing a facilitated transfer system for new farmers d) promoting the co-creation of collaborative working environments
